$9.9M invested into fish and seafood innovation projects

If you live in B.C., you understand how vital oysters, salmon and other marine species are to the province’s ocean habitats. They’re critical to the local ecosystem and need support to thrive in and enable a sustainable fish and seafood sector.

To that end, the federal and provincial governments have announced investments of $9.9 million in funding for 14 projects under the British Columbia Salmon Restoration and Innovation Fund (BCSRIF).

The investments are from the Canadian Ministry of Fisheries, Oceans, and the Canadian Coast Guard, in partnership with B.C.’s Ministry of Land, Water, and Resource Stewardship. The funded projects are aimed at improving sustainability, leveraging technology and data, and increasing economic viability, among other goals.

Ninety-seven projects have received BCSRIF funding since its inception in 2019 totalling $126 million in investments.
