Victoria’s VoxCell BioInnovation has had quite the year

Karolina Valente, founder and CEO of biotech firm VoxCell BioInnovation

The biotech firm VoxCell BioInnovation might be chief among us in hoping the calendar clings to 2022 a little while longer. The company has already landed funding from Sustainable Development Technology Canada and secured a podium finish in the New Ventures BC 2022 competition. Now, its founder and CEO has landed a six-figure cheque.

Karolina Valente won the Women-led Impact Investor Challenge presented by the TELUS Pollinator Fund for Good. This initiative empowers emerging impact investors and women-led ventures to make and seek impactful investments. Over the course of the program, VoxCell worked with an investor and venture cohort to learn the ins and outs of impact investing and fundraising.

Valente took the crown and the $100,000 top prize. The Victoria-based biotech company could, for lack of a better term, be defined as “cancertech.” VoxCell aims to provide a new platform for oncology drug screening by crafting 3D-printed, human-like tissues for drug testing.
